Model display nameplates by Galería de Clásicos
Categories Accessories, Scale Model and Accessory ReviewsWelcome to my review of these metal effect model display plaques/model nameplates by Galería de Clásicos of Argentina.
For those of us lucky enough to be able to display our scale model cars, we’re always on the lookout for cool and different ways to make our collection stand out, catch the eye of any visitors and, of course, make it more visually appealing for ourselves! Some people put their collection in big glass display cases. Some people put each model in an individual case on open shelves. Some create a diorama scene for a model or some sort of cool garage with lifts and accessories. All are equally great and all are awesome.
I too am one of those collectors who are also looking for cool and innovative ways to enhance my model display collection. When I made the switch from collecting 1:18 to 1:12 model cars during 2020 and displaying them in my IKEA Billy display case, I wanted to add something extra to add that wow factor to my display. Where I was able to display six 1:18 models per shelf, I can now only display two 1:12 models so the collection itself feels rather impressive when walking into the room. One day I was scrolling through Facebook and chanced upon a post somebody had shared by Galería de Clásicos to a model car group I am in. I checked out the photos, one of which you can see below with the Ferrari LaFerrari. How cool does that look!?!
I liked what I saw and got chatting with the owner of the page, a lovely guy called Diego all the way from Argentina. The stuff he had shown on his page was sized for 1:18 models, but I wanted to make something bigger – something that would suit being displayed besides 1:12 cars instead. We had a discussion and he kindly agreed to make some larger plaques/nameplates for me!
Next stage was for me to decide exactly what I wanted to be printed on my plaques. I loved how Diego had the brand logo plus the model logo and year showing on his sample nameplates, but wanted to take that one step further. You know when you walk into a dealership and you see a supercar on display with a stand alongside the car listing the key specs and options? I always wanted something similar for my collection so this was my starting point. I decided to go for the aforementioned logos, years of production and key specs such as top speed, 0-62mph time, horsepower and torque plus some engine details. I gave Diego some sample specs for the AUTOart McLaren P1 I have in my collection and he came up with some sample artwork, as shown below.
The top option appealed most to me, so the next stage was for me to gather all the information for each model that I already had in my collection or that I planned to get in the future. The only issue was that I kept buying more models and adding more to my wishlist during this process LOL! Once the spreadsheet of data was compiled and sent over, Diego got to work super quick on creating the samples shown below ready for my approval. The great thing is, Diego sends everything over for you to approve and give final sign off before it goes to print!
The nameplates are printed on a laser-printed aluminised surface and then stuck onto a plastic stand, custom-sized for each customer’s requirements. Diego then sent me this great picture of them all lined up ready for shipping!
Diego’s customer service knows no bounds – each nameplate is placed into a polystyrene tray and then stacked and taped up for shipping.
Finally, the whole lot is wrapped up in a hard cardboard shell and then brown wrapping paper ready to be shipped! It took about 5 weeks to travel from Argentina to the UK, although that transit time will obviously vary country by country and depending on how busy the postal services are.
So here we go – time to rip open the parcel and see what we’ve got. First impressions are simply wow! The metallic effect of the silver foil looks great and the imitation screw in all four corners is a lovely touch. The polystyrene trays did the trick because they all arrived in good condition!
This close up picture shows the clarity of the logos and text – what do you think?
Next step is to see how the nameplates look besides some of my models!
And here is how the nameplates by Galería de Clásicos look on display in my IKEA Billy display case!
I highly recommend these nameplates for anyone looking to add that extra special something to their display! Make sure to you check out Diego’s Facebook page called Galería de Clásicos, where you can find more pictures of these model nameplates and some other cool car art stuff he makes!
